The US Minister of Defense Hegseeth dismisses 20 percent of his four -star generals and admirals. Those are the highest officers in the American armed forces. Also 10 percent of generals and naval officers lower in rank have to look for another job.
“More generals and admirals do not make any more successes,” says Hegseeth. The opposite is rather true, he said when he was appointed.
No revenge exercise
Hegseeth also sent a number of senior soldiers home in February, including men of color and women. Before he became a minister, he complained that there are too many high soldiers who do nothing against “nonsense in the field of social justice, gender and climate”.
Yet, according to him, this dismissal round is not about a revenge exercise, but a measure that will maximize “strategic alertness”. What he means by that is not clear. He does, however, state that the US can “maintain its position as the deadliest force in the world through this step”.
The American armed forces currently have around 40 four -star generals and more than 800 other top soldiers. It is not yet known who has to get on.

Hegseeth is a former soldier and a former television presenter. At the end of April he came under fire because he and other high-ranking on Signal shared secret information about an attack on Houthi rebels in Yemen.
That leaked out because National Security Advisor Mike Waltz accidentally added the editor -in -chief of the magazine The Atlantic to the participants.
