To close a big anniversary year, the theater company will take over the theater for a performance of its “Oliver Twist”.
They opened 2025 very early, in January, and, already, with this show. The actors from the Boîte àPlay will take the stage one last time this year on December 14, at 5 p.m. at the Théâtre des Carmes with once again this “Oliver twist”, an adaptation of the Dickens novel by Victor Campa. “This creation dates from 2022 and this performance will be the 30th of the show which will also tour throughout this month between the Gers and the Hautes-Pyrénées,” explains its author. “Initially it was a friendly company, the Arlequin of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, who asked us for it for its 30th anniversary, and as we have never offered it to the general public, this is the opportunity.”
Born in the wake of the Covid pandemic, the show is easy to put on and relies on four actors to interpret all the characters, play and sing live. It is a family play, in the spirit of Christmas, which thanks to this matinee performance can be enjoyed just before the holidays, like a family outing. “All the songs from the show are available with their texts on a platform via our site and, as was done by the school audience, everyone can discover them in advance.”
This invitation is a great way for the company to end yet another exceptional season, marked by its 35th anniversary. “We are very happy to have been able to celebrate this anniversary with great attendance from the public and good feedback, particularly during our festival. This year we did 65 dates including a premiere in Spain, with Toro’s friends, where we played the 100th of “D’Artagnan my hero”. What is also very nice is that our summer audience, after coming to us, is now also asking us to go to them: to Belgium, to Brittany, where we have never been before, to Picardy or even to Pas-de-Calais. And this will be possible because the flexibility of our structure allows us to adapt to all rooms,” explains Victor. The Play Box should still be traveling well in 2026!
