Six Officials Fired Over Illegal Bamboo Fence in Tangerang

by drbyos

The Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning has dismissed six of its officials in response to the controversy surrounding an unauthorized bamboo fence constructed off the coast of Tangerang, Banten.

Agrarian planning minister, Nusron Wahid, announced the decision following an internal investigation of the wrongful issuance of permits for coastal land adjacent to the makeshift barrier stretching 30.16 kilometers.

“We’ve terminated six [agrarian planning] officials and imposed severe penalties on two additional employees,” Nusron stated on Thursday, according to Kompas.com.

Key Personnel Affected

Most of those dismissed held significant positions within the Tangerang Land Agency at the time the land permits were issued. This included the heads of the agency, the land rights and registration division, and the survey and mapping division.

Discovery of Permits

Earlier this month, Nusron disclosed that the ministry had discovered 266 right-to-build (HGB) permits and multiple ownership certificates (SHM) for coastal areas under the illegal structure.

Revocation Efforts

Since the revelation, the ministry has rescinded at least 50 HGB permits covering offshore areas and plans further revocations in the coming days.

A substantial majority of these revoked permits were issued to PT Intan Agung Makmur, which held 243 HGB permits for coastal land opposite the fence. Other permits were granted to PT Cahaya Inti Sentosa for 20 plots of land, while additional permits for other unnamed entities were also involved in the controversy.

Impact on Coastal Areas

This illegal fence has significant implications for the coastal areas of Tangerang, affecting marine ecosystems and local maritime activities. The ministry’s swift actions reflect its commitment to enforcing regulations and maintaining environmental integrity.

The dismissal of officials highlights the severity with which the government views such infractions, demonstrating that accountability is prioritized in regulating land usage and coastal development.
