Riyadh Train Expansion: New 8.4km Link to Diriyah Revealed

Seven kilometers and one hundred meters below the surface of the Earth This is the depth of the new tunnels that will penetrate the interior of Riyadh to achieve a dream that seemed impossible: linking the largest university in the Kingdom to a world heritage site in a trip that does not exceed 40 minutes!

The Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh unveiled the award of an exceptional project that will add 8.4 new kilometers to the red track within the Riyadh train network, in a step aimed at linking King Saud University to the Diriyah Gate Development Project through a network of deep tunnels and elevated tracks.

Engineering details of the project reveal Huge technical ambition: 7.1 kilometers of underground tunnels compared to 1.3 kilometers of elevated tracks, in addition to five new stations strategically distributed between the university and Diriyah.

King Saud University will witness the establishment of two specialized stations: the first to serve the medical city and health colleges, and the second in the university’s main lobby. While Diriyah will have three stations, one of which will be a future connection point with Route 7.

The Authority has developed an integrated plan to manage traffic diversions during the implementation period, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic until this historic achievement is completed.
