Resurgence of Conventional Martial Arts: Ledin Min School Reopens in Binh Dinh

A Family’s Dedication to Preserving Binh Dinh’s Martial Arts Heritage

After a hiatus of over a decade, the Ledin Min Martial Arts School, originally established in 1995, has triumphantly reopened its doors in the Hoaco district of Nonheung-gu, Non-eup, Bin Dean. This revival is largely attributed to Retita Olita, daughter of the school’s founder, Master Ledin Min (also known as Levanmin). driven by a deep-seated desire to safeguard her family’s legacy and the traditional martial arts of the region, Olita has played a pivotal role in the school’s restoration and continued progress.

Tao: A Modern-Day Advocate for traditional Arts

Central to this resurgence is tao, a multifaceted individual born in 1990. Currently an art teacher at Nonhyeon’s Nonkan Elementary School,Tao’s passion extends beyond the canvas to encompass the traditional martial arts of Binh Dinh. Her dedication was formally recognized in 2024 when she received a local certification from the Bin Dean Traditional Martial Arts Federation.

tao’s commitment to revitalizing the school stemmed from a heartfelt conversation with her father. After receiving his blessing, she embarked on a mission to gather essential documents, connect with former students, and navigate the necessary procedures with the People’s Committee on Martial Arts. Her efforts culminated in the school’s reopening in October 2023, with the enthusiastic support of village leaders and the Annant Village culture, information, and sports center.

Previously, Le Dinh minh martial arts schools have achieved a lot of outstanding results in AN NHON, so they are now rebuilt and are supported by people, so they can easily recruit and grow quickly.

expanding Access: New Martial Arts Clubs Launched

The momentum continued on March 9th when the Redin-Min Martial Arts School partnered with the Nonfong Community Youth Union to inaugurate the Nonfong Martial Arts Club.This marks the second martial arts club operating under the auspices of the community Culture Center, further expanding access to training opportunities. Master Ledin Min reports that, despite its recent establishment, the club has already attracted over 30 participants from the community.

Master Ledin Min: A Lifetime Dedicated to Martial Arts

Ledin Min, born Levanmin in 1967, began his martial arts journey at the age of 16 (1983). He honed his skills at the Hongki O’A,founded by the esteemed martial artist Ledin Eungye,and received direct guidance from Dangdeok Bin Master. His dedication and talent were evident early on. In 1989, he secured a victory in the 57kg class at a district martial arts competition, competing under the name Dang Deok-min. Following this triumph, he collaborated with Bin to train numerous martial artists, who went on to achieve success in local and regional competitions.

At 29, Min officially established the Redin Min Martial Arts School. In 2005, he earned a coach certificate from the Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts Federation, solidifying his credentials. Under his leadership, students achieved remarkable results in various tournaments. notable examples include Nguyen Tan Hieu and Nguyen Son Long, who both clinched gold medals at the 2005 Central Fuyan Highland Tournament, and Letanha, who secured a silver medal at the 2006 Bin Dean Youth Martial Arts Competition.

Overcoming Obstacles: A Temporary Setback and Eventual Revival

In 2007, the ledin min Martial arts School, in collaboration with the Culture-Information-Sports Center of the Annantian district, organized a martial arts-boxing competition in Fuyan, quang Eungi, and Kainhoa. The school’s contributions were instrumental in advancing the martial arts and sports movement within the province. Though, economic hardships forced the school to suspend operations in 2010. Master Min focused on providing for his daughter, a decision he admits was tinged with regret.

A New Generation Embraces Tradition

Since its reopening in October 2023, the Redin Min Martial Arts School has experienced a surge in enrollment, attracting a diverse group of students aged 6-17 from Annon Village. The curriculum encompasses traditional martial arts training for health and well-being, alongside practical self-defense techniques, combat training, and disciplines such as wrestling, kickboxing, and boxing.The school operates six days a week, offering two-hour sessions at the Annon Town Culture Center square.

Baoyen, a 16-year-old student at Nguyen Dinh Chieu high School, has been training at the school for a year. He notes the initial challenges but emphasizes the positive impact on his strength, versatility, and overall well-being.

An Nhon: A Hub for Binh Dinh Martial Arts

Le Trong Thu, vice chairman of the AN NHON Village-Information-Sports Center and vice-president of the An Nnhon Village Martial Arts Association, proudly proclaims An nhon as a central hub for Binh Dinh martial arts. He emphasizes its rich history, having nurtured numerous heroes and renowned martial artists. The region boasts a strong martial arts movement, with the annon Martial Arts Association actively promoting the development of clubs, including those within schools. Currently, an Nhon has 26 active martial arts groups, signaling a promising future for the preservation of Binh Dinh’s traditional martial arts heritage, thanks to the dedication of individuals like Tao.
