The vision of creating a “hydrogen city” in Hrabůvka, a district of Ostrava, is moving forward. The project, conceived approximately five years ago by entrepreneur Jan Světlík, aims to repurpose a former industrial heap into a center for hydrogen technology and recreational opportunities.

The Hrabůvka heap, also known as the “Ostrava sea,” is undergoing a transformation that includes both investment projects and the revival of leisure activities. According to a Vítkovice spokesman, the area is being revitalized to support sustainable ideas, alongside existing activities like fishing.

The introduction of fishing to the “Ostrava sea” was a intentional step in the revitalization process. The lake, formed as a result of remediation efforts to control underground thermal activity, is now teeming with life.To prevent the excessive growth of aquatic plants, pond plankton was introduced in collaboration with Ostrava biologist and teacher jiří Rachvalík, who has extensively studied the fish populations in Ostrava’s waters.
