The European Central Bank is entering a new stage in the history of money – the digital euro system is being prepared, which would be the biggest change in the European payment market in the last two decades. This new electronic form of money, existing alongside cash, should give Europe more financial independence, ensure resilience to geopolitical tensions and offer consumers an additional, free means of payment even without an internet connection. However, at the same time, experts warn: this measure can become a difficult test for the entire financial system.
