PRESS RELEASE – This year marks an important milestone for SP Canada Centre-du-Québec, which is celebrating 25 years of commitment, support and hope to people living with multiple sclerosis in the region.
It was in August 2000 that a few committed volunteers founded the organization so that people affected would no longer have to travel to Mauricie to find services and information.
Thanks to their dedication and that of the teams that followed, SP Centre-du-Québec has become an active and deeply involved organization. It fulfills its main mission every day: breaking isolation, promoting autonomy and improving the quality of life of its members. Today, more than 240 people living with MS, as well as their loved ones, benefit from the services offered in Centre-du-Québec.
A deeply human reason for being
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system. It affects approximately one in 400 people in Canada, which has one of the highest rates in the world. On average, 60% of diagnoses are made in people aged 20 to 49, and 75% of those affected are women.
Faced with this reality, SP Canada Centre-du-Québec has established itself as a community pillar, offering services adapted to the evolving needs of its members:
Physical activities supervised by professionals.
Conferences and information sessions on topics affected by the disease.
Support for access to housing, adapted vehicles, specialized equipment, financial assistance, etc.
Reference to specialized resources.
Newsletters, discussion groups and unifying events.
25 years of milestones
Over the years, the organization has organized hundreds of fundraising activities, including the Carnation Campaign, the Friendship Bike Tour, the A&W Meetings to Stop MS and the MS Walk.
All intertwined with activities and conferences that united hearts and minds with the aim of improving overall health and breaking isolation.
A call for collaboration
On the occasion of this 25th anniversary, SP Canada Centre-du-Québec would like to invite the population wishing to collaborate in improving the daily lives of people living with MS. By getting involved as volunteers or by acting as partners and developing projects with collaborators attentive to the realities of more than 240 members living with MS and their loved ones. All these actions concretely contribute to improving their quality of life and giving them hope!
A huge thank you to all those who contributed to this great human adventure. Together, let’s continue to build a more supportive, more inclusive and brighter future for people living with MS.
