Most Expensive Watch Sold: Record Price Revealed

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Reference 1518 model watch was sold for 14.2 million Swiss francs (744 million TL) at the auction held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The watch was sold for 11 million Swiss francs (576 million TL) at auction in 2016. Nine years later, it broke its own record with its new sales price.

Ref. produced in 1943. The 1518 model is an extremely rare watch, with only four steel-cased versions available in the world.

While Patek Philippe generally produces models with gold cases, it is still unknown why the steel version is made. This makes it a legendary piece for collectors.

5 buyers competed

Phillips auction house said the sale lasted nine and a half minutes and five buyers competed. Ref. 1518 went down in watchmaking history as the first mass-produced perpetual calendar chronograph. The auction made history as the highest volume watch auction ever, generating a total revenue of 66.8 million Swiss francs (3.5 billion TL).
