The summons of the founder of the radical left movement was expected but it was officially announced on Friday, and appears on the Assembly website.

The leader of La France insoumise Jean-Luc Mélenchon will be summoned by the commission of inquiry launched by Les Républicains à l’Assembly, into supposed links between political movements and Islamist networks, implicitly targeting LFI, we learned on Friday from parliamentary sources. The summons of the founder of the radical left movement was expected but it was officially announced on Friday, and appears on the Assembly website.

The commission of inquiry, its president Xavier Breton (LR) and its rapporteur Matthieu Bloch (UDR), intend to hear Jean-Luc Mélenchon on Tuesday, even if the date is subject to a response from the person concerned. “Jean-Luc Mélenchon did not receive any summons”assured those around him, questioned by AFP, believing that this commission “was completely misguided by circumventing the regulations of the National Assembly”.

Essentially, the Insoumis rebel in particular against the fact that the office (president, vice-presidents, secretaries, etc.) of this commission does not include deputies from left-wing groups, while the regulations stipulate that these appointments must be made in accordance with“trying to reproduce the political configuration of the Assembly”. Jean-Luc Mélenchon “would respond to any summons received from a commission of inquiry which respects the rules defined by the regulations of the National Assembly”continues those around him.

“We are not here to become LFI,” retorts Ciottist rapporteur Matthieu Bloch

Basically, LFI executives criticize an alleged lack of revelations and a commission based on a presupposition “ridiculous and politician”in the words of movement coordinator Manuel Bompard. “We are not here to be LFI”retorts Ciottist rapporteur Matthieu Bloch, interviewed by AFP on November 23. The commission of inquiry “will allow us to take a precise inventory of the phenomenon of entryism in our country”he argued, believing that it will make it possible to make concrete proposals, in particular to guide local elected officials.

On Tuesday the commission of inquiry will hear the boss of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier (4:30 p.m.) and plans to question the Minister of Justice Gérald Darmanin on Thursday, according to a parliamentary source. Launched after multiple upheavals, the commission of inquiry is already soon forced to complete its work (around December 10).

She interviewed several personalities or officials, in particular authors of works targeting La France insoumise but also university researchers, pollsters or officials such as the director of intelligence of the Paris Police Prefecture or the Minister of the Interior Laurent Nunez. The powers of a commission of inquiry include in particular summons with an obligation for the person to attend, powers of investigation and to conduct hearings under oath.
