Kicking off the month, a crucial session titled Rights and Security for the Elderly: Don’t Be Deceived
was held on May 5th at the CMM Nicolás Salmerón. This talk aimed to equip seniors with essential knowledge to protect themselves from scams and understand their rights. According to the national Council on Aging, financial scams targeting seniors are on the rise, costing older adults billions of dollars annually. This initiative is a proactive step towards safeguarding the well-being of Chamartín’s senior population.

Continuing the focus on well-being, a healthy talk on Osteoporosis and Sport
was presented on May 6th by a professor from the CMM Gymnastics Workshop Prosperidad-santa Hortensia. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends weight-bearing exercises and strength training to help prevent and manage osteoporosis, a condition affecting millions of seniors worldwide.

May in Madrid is synonymous with San Isidro, the city’s patron saint. Chamartín’s senior centers are embracing the festivities with a series of events:
- Sevillanas Exhibition: On May 8th, the Auditorium of Berlin Park hosted an exhibition of Sevillanas performances by senior centers in the district, showcasing the vibrant culture of the April Fair.
- Pilgrimage to La Pradera: A conventional pilgrimage to La Pradera de San Isidro and a visit to the hermitage took place on May 9th,offering seniors a chance to connect with the city’s history and traditions.
- Verbena Celebration: The CMM Nicolás Salmerón hosted a Verbena de San Isidro on May 13th, featuring music, dancing, lemonade, and donuts, creating a joyful atmosphere for all attendees.
