Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman sent a ‘satire’ banner of appreciation to the KPK building regarding the transfer of the house arrest status of former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. The Corruption Eradication Commission welcomed the post positively as a public expression.

“The Corruption Eradication Commission views this as a form of public expression that we receive positively. As a law enforcement agency, the Corruption Eradication Commission is always open to various criticisms, suggestions and constructive input in efforts to eradicate corruption,” said KPK spokesperson, Budi Prasetyo to journalists, Tuesday (24/3/2026).

Budi believes that what MAKI is doing is a reflection of the high level of public attention. He said public participation was an important element in maintaining the integrity of an institution, including the KPK.

“We see that this also reflects the high level of attention, hope and public trust in the law enforcement process carried out by the Corruption Eradication Commission. Public participation, in various forms, is an important element in maintaining the integrity and accountability of the institution,” he said.

Budi said the KPK places the public as supervisors to ensure every process runs transparently. He said the KPK would continue to keep the space for public participation open.

“The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) places the community as a strategic partner in eradicating corruption. Not only does it play an active role in supporting prevention and prosecution efforts, the community also has an important function as a supervisor (watchdog) who ensures that every process runs transparently and can be accounted for,” said Budi.

“Because of this, the Corruption Eradication Commission will continue to keep the space for public participation open, as part of its commitment to providing law enforcement that is clean, professional and with integrity,” he added.

Previously, MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman sent a ‘satire’ banner with a plaque of appreciation to the KPK building regarding the transfer of the house arrest status of former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. The banner reads a record of transferring special people to house arrest.

“Today I sent five plaques of appreciation to the KPK. Congratulations on breaking the record, namely the transfer of house arrest from MORI, the Museum of Real Indonesian People. Special people,” said Boyamin Saiman to journalists, Tuesday (24/3).

Boyamin said it was hoped that the award certificate would be a reminder for the KPK. He brought up the KPK’s move to transfer Yaqut’s status to house arrest, drawing criticism from the public.

“And it is also a reminder to the Corruption Eradication Commission not to play with people’s feelings like that. The public is too smart, not just MAKI. Just check, is there any social media that supports the Corruption Eradication Committee’s actions? There isn’t. There aren’t any comments on the news either,” he said.

He said this diversion was a record broken by the KPK since 2003. He said diversions were usually carried out in the form of transfers due to illness.

“Well, if you have been detained and are healthy and then transferred to house arrest, this will cause discrimination and damage the system. Because everyone will ask for the same thing and the most important thing is that Gus Alex, who was also detained with the same case, will not be transferred either,” he said.

“So the lies and cover-up made the people even more irritated and angry. And I implemented that anger in the form of giving a certificate in the form of a banner that they had broken that record,” he added.

Furthermore, Boyamin decided to continue sending the award banner even though Yaqut was detained again in detention today. For your information, Yaqut is returning to detention at the KPK detention center as of today after being under house arrest for several days.

“Even though YCQ has returned to the KPK detention center, the banner is still needed because the YCQ transfer of house arrest incident has occurred so it is intended to be a reminder to the KPK not to repeat unnecessary blunders that will damage the eradication of corruption in the future,” he said.

It is known that Yaqut’s detention has changed to house arrest since last Thursday (19/3). KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said house arrest for Yaqut was carried out after the KPK received a request from the family.

Yaqut’s detention was again transferred to prison detention on Monday (23/3). The KPK has again detained Yaqut today after Yaqut underwent a series of medical tests.
