Cream (Cremona) – A withdrawal multiorgano performed on Saturday atthe Maggiore hospital in Crema will save the lives of at least eight patients waiting for a transplant. The withdrawal was made possible thanks to will expressed by the family of a young manfollowing brain death. The specialist teams participants, coming from the San Matteo Polyclinic of Pavia, the Civil Spedali of Brescia, the Niguarda Hospital and the National Cancer Institute of Milan, proceeded with the sampling of the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, aorta, tendons and skin.
To the procedure
The organs have been assigned to the respective transplant centers, while the removed tissues will be deposited in the Bone and Skin Banks for the necessary checks. “Once the death has been confirmed and the willingness to donate the organs has been verified – he explains Federica Depetri, head of the Hospital Procurement Coordination Group (Cop) of the Crema Asst – the procedure for evaluating the clinical suitability of the donor has been activated”.
The withdrawal
The withdrawal has committed the medical personnel for a total of eleven hours: the activities in the operating room began at 1.30 am and ended at 12.30 pm on Saturday. “The networking of all the Asst Crema staff was fundamental – added Dr. Depetri -.
