DwingelooTonight you can see a particularly astronomical phenomenon: an almost complete moon darkening. In addition, the earth slides exactly between the sun and the moon, making the moon largely invisible. In clear weather, the phenomenon from the Netherlands is clearly visible.

Star guards throughout the country expect extra visitors. Many people want to experience the eclipse. That is not for nothing, because the effect is enchanting: it looks like the moon is ‘out’.

“A moon darkening is a form of optical illusion,” says astronomer Fons Lepperkam. “Because there is no sunlight on the moon, it seems like the moon has disappeared. The moon is of course still there, but is hardly visible. It is really a phenomenal spectacle.”

Those who want to see the nature spectacle is lucky. According to weather institutions, the circumstances are favorable. The weather is largely clear, so that the moon darkening must be visible almost everywhere. For those who really don’t want to miss anything, it is advisable to look for a dark place, away from street lamps and other light sources.
