Jonathan Daviss, known for his role in Outer Banks, has been cast as Snoop Dogg in an upcoming biopic. Universal Pictures has been developing the project for several years, and recently announced Daviss’s casting, which Snoop Dogg has expressed his enthusiasm for.

Craig Brewer, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, will direct the as-yet-untitled movie. The film will feature music from Snoop Dogg’s extensive career. Snoop Dogg, Brian Grazer, and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are serving as producers.

Craig Brewer’s previous directorial work includes Dolemite Is My Name, Coming 2 America, and Hustle & Flow. This biopic marks the first film under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment and Studios, signaling the label’s expansion into visual media. Universal Pictures previously produced the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton in 2015, where Lakeith Stanfield played Snoop Dogg.
