Indonesian Navy Resumes Dismantling of Coastal Sea Fence in Tangerang

By Archynetys Team | Jakarta

The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has resumed dismantling the sea fence in Tangerang, Banten, following a seven-day halt due to adverse weather conditions. The restoration project, involving a 30.16-kilometer-long sea fence, has resumed operations with efforts directed at two primary locations: Tanjung Pasir and Kronjo.

Progress Update and Challenges

At Tanjung Pasir, 1.5 kilometers of the fence have been dismantled, while efforts at Kronjo have removed 500 meters so far. As of February 4, 2025, a total of 20.7 kilometers of the sea fence have been successfully dismantled.

While progress is being made, challenges such as strong winds and high waves have posed significant obstacles. Nevertheless, the Indonesian Navy has recommenced the dismantling process, taking into account current weather conditions.

Government Directive and Community Impact

This dismantling operation is a direct response to a directive issued by President Prabowo Subianto. The primary goal is to open access for fishermen, thereby restoring their livelihood and ensuring their ability to continue fishing for a living.

Operational Details

A total of 256 personnel are involved in the ongoing efforts, with contributions from the Indonesian Navy, Water and Air Police (Polairud), and local fishermen. The Indonesian Navy has utilized various tools and equipment, including 12 rubber boats, one RBB unit, one RHIB unit, one Patkamla, and several traditional fishermen’s boats to facilitate the dismantling process effectively.

Previous Halt and Continuous Readiness

The dismantling operation was initially paused for a week in Tangerang due to unfavorable weather conditions. However, the Indonesian Navy maintained a presence on site, keeping personnel and dismantling equipment ready to resume operations as soon as conditions permitted.
