Since version 18.4 of iOS, released in April, users can enter third -party apps by default for navigation, media playback and translation. The feature is further based on previous opportunities to change browsers and e-mail clients, and means that apps like Google Translate can be integrated deeper into the system, this reports 9TO5MAC.
To set up Google Translate as the default translator you go to Settings> Apps> Standard Daps> Translationand select Google Translate.
Previously, users were locked to Apple’s built -in app for translation via Siri (HU!) Or system features such as text marking. With the new setting, such functions can instead be linked to third -party apps – depending on the user’s choice.
Apple’s opening for standard selection in more app categories is made in the wake of increased regulation, especially in the EU. Digital Markets ACT demands that users be able to replace pre -installed apps and gain greater control over their devices. However, Apple has made the translation function available globally, not just within the EU.
The development indicates a broader shift where Apple adapts to increased regulatory requirements by offering more system openings, even outside Europe.
