We call it “spoofing”or, in French, identity theft.
The National Police warns of cases of fraud involving fake police officers in Indre-et-Loire and in particular in Chambray-lès-Tours. Individuals contact their victim by usurping the telephone number of the Tours police station. They tell him that a fraudulent purchase was made with his bank card and that a complaint was filed against him. An accomplice comes, then, at the person’s home to take their bank cardwhich the forger can use himself.
Hang up and call the police (the real one!)
Of course, the police will never ask you for your credit card or bank detailseven less your personal codes. If this happens to you, hang up immediately and warn the real police. In the event of a fraudulent transfer or payment, or if you realize that you have been the victim of a scam, you must also contact your bankwhich generally provides an emergency number to call for these emergencies.
