CT State Manchester students join restaurants to support Connecticut Foodshare.
MANCHESTER, Conn. — The Empty Bowl Project is returning to CT State Community College Manchester and celebrating 25 years of supporting Connecticut Foodshare.
The initiative puts CT State Manchester students to work: art students create some of the handcrafted bowls for the event while the culinary and hospitality students work on making the soups.
Molly Devanney, the co-chair of the Empty Bowls Project in Manchester, said the 2025 edition of the one-day fundraiser is especially important.
“We see cutbacks within the state and federal government affecting our bottom line at Connecticut Foodshare and this is just a unique way we can continue to raise funds for Connecticut Foodshare,” Devanney said.
This year, $30 buys a handmade bowl which can be filled with soup — numerous times — from an array of area restaurants like Mulberry Street Pizza in Manchester and Max Downtown. There will be a number of offerings made by culinary students at CT State Manchester.

Arianna Kaplan, a hospitality student at CT State, said she was happy to be back helping the cause for the second year in a row.
“I love that I get to help people, that is my favorite thing here is that I always get to help the community and give back to people,” Kaplan said.
Fellow student Shelby Johnson added that it “warms your heart that there are people out there that need your help and to be one of those people to give back, it’s really great.”
The Empty Bowls Project happens at CT State Manchester on Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The crafted soup bowls cost $30 each. To find out more, click here.
