The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) predicts that Indonesia will face the El Nino phenomenon with strong intensity, or what is often nicknamed “Godzilla”, this year. This phenomenon is predicted to trigger a much longer and drier dry season, especially for the western and southern regions of Indonesia.
Researcher at the BRIN Center for Climate and Atmospheric Research, Erma Yulihastin, explained that El Nino “Godzilla” is a very significant warming anomaly of sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean.
“This condition causes the dry season in Indonesia to become longer and drier,” wrote Erma via the official Instagram account @brin_indonesia seen by detikcom Tuesday (24/3/2026).

This situation is exacerbated by the emergence of the positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomenon. The combination of the two makes rain clouds more concentrated in the Pacific Ocean, while the Indonesian region actually experiences empty clouds and minimal rainfall.
Health Problems Due to Extreme Hot Weather
Table of Contents
Apart from the environmental impact, the scorching hot temperatures caused by El Nino Godzilla also pose serious risks to bodily health. Quoted from Healthline, here are some medical problems caused by hot weather that you need to watch out for:
Migraine attack
Exposure to high temperatures and extreme humidity can trigger severe headaches. A 2023 study shows that hot weather is one of the main triggers for migraine attacks for thousands of people.
Heart attack
When the environmental temperature exceeds normal body temperature, the heart has to work extra hard and beat faster to circulate blood to the skin for the cooling process (sweat). This heavy workload increases the risk of fatality for people with heart problems.
Stroke
Extreme heat puts great stress on the vascular system. This risk increases drastically in the elderly, especially those who already have a history of high blood pressure.
Heat Stroke (Heat Shock)
This is a medical emergency. Signs include changes in behavior, slurred speech, confusion, and even seizures. If not treated immediately, heat stroke can be fatal.
Blood Pressure Disorders
Hot temperatures can cause blood pressure to become too low (due to fluid loss through sweat) or actually increase because the body is forced to work hard to cool the internal temperature.
Acute Dehydration
Dehydration occurs when the fluid released through sweat is not comparable to the water consumed. Symptoms range from dry mouth and dizziness, to a sharp increase in heart rate due to lack of blood volume.
