“He could no longer stand on his feet.” Wednesday March 25, 2026, a resident of the Saverne region (Bas-Rhin) hears the sounds of horns and surprises a scene of extreme violence: an octogenarian is dragging an Australian Shepherd connected by a rope to the caravan hitch by a vehicle. “She rushed towards the vehicle to stop the driver, then unchained the dog and called the police”reports Véronique, head of the “Animal Abuse” department at the Saverne shelter. Nayko, 8 years old, was rushed to a veterinary clinic and taken care of by the association.
Numerous injuries and apparent negligence
The after-effects are numerous. Nayko’s truffle is “very damaged”assures Véronique because of marked erosion. The veterinary certificate also confirms “skin lesions”, “severe wear of the claws of the forelimbs down to the base” as well as “significant traumatic lesions of the carpal pads”. Wounds that weaken the animal in its slightest movements, and impact its gait. “Arrived at the shelter, the dog cannot go down the stairs”relates the manager of the shelter in a complaint filed with the Saverne gendarmerie and consulted by 30millionsdamis.fr. “When he got out of the box he was in in the car, he fell to the ground because he couldn’t stand on his feet.” The animal was also filled with “ticks” and would not have received “no vaccine since 2021”according to Véronique.

An act punishable by 3 years of imprisonment
From now on, Nayko is placed in safety. In an order, the Saverne judicial court entrusts the Australian shepherd to the Saverne shelter. « [Une fois les démarches judiciaires achevées : ndlr]I would like Nayko to quickly find a family”confides Véronique to 30millionsdamis.fr. In the meantime, the animal receives all the care necessary for its health, and is placed on anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve its injuries. “Despite his condition, this dog is extremely friendly. He celebrates us every time he sees us! »says the service manager.
