The Chilling Depok Home Invasion: A Case Study in Crime and Police Response
The Nightmare Unfolds
On a quiet Saturday morning in Depok, a 36-year-old woman’s life was forever altered. The victim, a mother living alone, was sleeping peacefully when her world was shattered. The perpetrators, armed with an ax, broke into her home and threatened her with death if she did not comply with their demands. The horrifying ordeal included rape and the theft of her belongings, including her cellphone.
"The perpetrators were carrying an ax at the time, then threatened the victim to use the ax to open his pants and clothes, and was threatened to be killed if the victim shouted," explained Kasubdit Resmob Ditreskrimum Metro Jaya Police AKBP Ressa Fiardy Marasabessy. "After the victim obeyed the perpetrator’s orders, then the perpetrator raped the victim."
Swift Police Action
The police swiftly intervened, conducting an investigation and launching a manhunt for the perpetrators. Three days later, the Metro Jaya Police Resmob Subdit Team successfully arrested the suspects. The perpetrators were caught along with a colleague who had purchased the victim’s stolen cellphone for Rp. 700,000. The money was used to buy methamphetamine.
"The RR suspect sold the cellphone to the HHP suspect for Rp. 700,000. The money was used by RR suspects to buy methamphetamine," said Ade Ary, a spokesperson for the police.
The Recidivist Factor
The police revealed that the primary perpetrator, RR, was a recidivist, having previously served a sentence for a similar rape case in 2016. This disturbing pattern highlights the challenges law enforcement faces with repeat offenders. The perpetrators, who were unemployed, also worked as couriers and drug sellers, further complicating their criminal activities.
Drug Trafficking and Arrest
The police discovered that the perpetrators were involved in drug trafficking, specifically selling methamphetamine. They used a unique method, known as the "paste address mode," where they left the drugs in public places for buyers to collect. This method has been identified by the police and is currently under investigation.
"[The perpetrator] trades this methamphetamine with a paste address mode. He made an agreement with the prospective buyer to put his soap in one place, attached to a place. Are the bus stops and so on in public places, then the agreement later the buyer will take this," said Ade Ary.

Increasing Use of Technology
As technology advances, so do the methods used by criminals. The use of encrypted communication and dark web marketplaces make it easier for criminals to operate.
