Denmark Election Results: Fredriksen Wins Amid US Relations Strain

Denmark’s relations with Washington have worsened because US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to have Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, under the control of the United States. Until relatively recently, Trump did not rule out the possibility of using military force to achieve this goal, but in January announced that such a possibility was no longer under consideration. Trump also abandoned his intention to impose additional tariffs on European countries that had expressed strong support for Denmark in the Greenland crisis.
