Dr. Dave Ashok Chokshi Appointed to KFF Board of Trustees

SAN FRANCISCO – Dr. Dave Ashok Chokshi, a practicing physician and prominent figure in healthcare, has been named to the Board of Trustees at KFF, the association announced today.

Dr. Chokshi is currently a physician at Bellevue Hospital and holds the position of Sternberg Family Professor of Leadership at the City College of New York. He previously served as the 43rd Health Commissioner of New York City from 2020 to 2022, where he spearheaded the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the large-scale effort to vaccinate over six million New yorkers.

According to Dr. Drew Altman, KFF’s President and CEO, “Dr. Chokshi is a tremendous addition to KFF and our board as we confront new and unprecedented challenges in health policy and public health.”

Dr.Chokshi stated, “there could not be a more vital moment for the work of KFF. I have long admired KFF’s focus on how policy affects people, and its unwavering pursuit of truth through data, research, and journalism. I am honored to join the Board and excited to contribute to this essential mission.”

In addition to his other roles, Dr. Chokshi is the chair of the common Health Coalition, a nonpartisan organization focused on strengthening collaboration between healthcare and public health sectors. He also co-chairs the Health and Political Economy Project.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Chokshi was the inaugural Chief Population Health Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H), the country’s largest public healthcare system, and served as CEO of the H+H Accountable Care Organization. Since 2014, Dr. Chokshi has practiced primary care internal medicine at Bellevue Hospital,with a focus on serving individuals experiencing homelessness.

Dr. Chokshi also holds board positions at Community solutions, Rock Health, and Yuvo Health.

The KFF board of Trustees is chaired by former U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe and includes 13 members with extensive experience in public service, academia, nonprofit organizations, healthcare, and media.
