Colombian workers could be on their way to a four-day workweek, according to recent data that reveals a significant reduction in the number of workdays in a year.
According to recent statistics, an average employee in Colombia works the equivalent of only 62% of the total days in a year. This reduction is due to a combination of factors, including weekends, holidays, family days, birthdays and vacations. In total, this could mean workers spend just 244 days a year at work. Surprisingly, for 18 weeks a year, Colombian workers only work four days, Tuesday through Friday, due to holidays.
However, the reduction in working hours does not stop there. With the provision of Law 1857 of 2017, which grants two additional family days, and the possibility of taking the birthday, the number of working days could be further reduced to 241 days per year. And although the ability to take civic days depends on each company’s policy, this could still decrease the total number of days worked per year.
