China’s Global Role: Strengthening Partnerships and Promoting Stability

BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) — The year 2024 witnessed a rapidly evolving international landscape characterized by changes and challenges. Amidst this chaos, China has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peace, stability, and development alongside its global partners.

Upgrading Global Ties

Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s warm welcome to Chinese President Xi Jinping in Budapest exemplifies the evolving nature of China’s partnerships. This visit marked the 75th anniversary of China’s diplomatic relations with Hungary, culminating in an elevation of ties to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era.

Hungary is not alone; other nations like Tajikistan, Serbia, and the Maldives have similarly enhanced their relations with China. Unlike条约 alliances sought by some Western countries, China focuses on building a network of equal, open, and cooperative partnerships, a vision Xi Jinping has championed for over a decade.

At the China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit, China established or upgraded strategic partnerships with 30 African countries, becoming a strategic partner of all 53 African nations with whom it shares diplomatic relations.

Aligning Development Strategies

During a state visit to Brazil, Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva decided to align China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with Brazil’s national strategies. This strategic alignment aims to boost Brazil’s economic vitality and leverage complementary strengths.

The BRI has been instrumental in aligning development strategies with various countries worldwide. This has included Kazakhstan’s Bright Path policy, Mongolia’s Steppe Road Program, Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030,” and Russia’s Eurasian Economic Union.

Hungary’s “Eastern Opening” policy is a prime example of the BRI’s success. Since 2015, Hungary has participated in the BRI, leading to connectivity projects like the Budapest-Belgrade railway, set to be operational by 2025.

Shared Responsibility as Dwellers of the Same Planet

Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of shared responsibility amidst global challenges. This concept, rooted in the idea that “passengers in the same boat should help each other,” reflects China’s vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

China has actively participated in addressing international conflicts, such as the Ukraine crisis. Through initiatives like the “Friends of Peace” platform, China aims to promote ceasefire and peace negotiations.

This year, Xi highlighted the interdependence of nations, underscoring the need for collaboration to achieve shared prosperity.

Global South Solidarity

The term “Global South” was recognized as one of the top global buzzwords in 2024, reflecting the increasing influence of developing nations. Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized the importance of Global South solidarity in his interactions with international leaders.

China has been a key supporter of the Global South’s development, providing assistance to over 160 countries, collaborating with more than 100 countries and international organizations, and establishing a fund to support over 150 projects.

Eduardo Regalado from the International Policy Research Center of Cuba praised China’s commitment to supporting developing countries, especially those in the Global South.

Mutual Learning Among Civilizations

In November, an exhibition at Peru’s Inca Museum showcased artifacts from China’s Sanxingdui and Jinsha ruins alongside Inca pottery and gold artifacts, highlighting the similarities and diversities of ancient civilizations.

Xi Jinping urged both sides to engage in mutual learning among civilizations during his talks with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte. China has organized various cultural exchange events, including the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism.

Events such as the Kazakhstan Tourism Year, the China-Russia Year of Culture, and the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-people Exchanges underscore China’s dedication to cultural diplomacy.

Alok Kumar Pathak from the BRICS Institute in India lauded China’s efforts in promoting cultural exchanges, emphasizing their importance for mutual progress.

Conclusion

As the world continues to navigate through challenges, China’s commitment to peace, development, and mutual prosperity remains steadfast. Through enhanced partnerships, aligned development strategies, and cultural exchanges, China is playing a pivotal role in shaping a positive global future.
