Catherine Souffront: 2 Years of Love & Appreciation

by drbyos

The actress and singer has the wind in her sails, since she has several projects currently on the air: the series Derivative in Crave and the new seasons of Our home et The eye of the storm on Tou.tv Extra. She also ended the year with a first participation in 2025 Revised and corrected at the Rideau Vert and she released her very first song under the pseudonym Cath Darbouze, Wish You Well. The least we can say is that a lot has happened since Catherine decided to leave her job as a prosecutor to throw herself head first into the profession of actress.

Kathryn, how are you?

It’s going very well! Great things are happening for me. I am thinking, among other things, of Derivativein which I play a singer, which allows me to sing on screen. Moreover, at the end of autumn I launched my first song, Wish You Well. I also went on stage to 2025 Revised and corrected.

During our first interview, a few years ago, you told me that your parents didn’t like the idea of you leaving law for a more abstract profession. Have they changed their minds since then?

Yes, their mourning is over and they are so proud of me. There is an adage that says that in life, we do not raise our children, it is our children who raise us. There is something true in that. My parents also grow through me. They saw that it was possible, that it was going pretty well for me.

After seven years, what’s left of the prosecutor in you?

The fact remains that I am a very rational person who analyzes a lot and who is very Cartesian. I have an uprightness, a first-class side. Being a prosecutor gave me a certain amount of self-confidence.

Is being an actress going as you imagined?

No, it’s going even better! But for me, the only possible failure in leaving law was not having tried to become an actress. I have the chance to make a living from my art, I am living a real dream.

Tell me about your role as the mysterious singer Lana in Derivative?

She is a jazz singer who has a promising future and who is spotted by Daniel Major’s agency (Jean-Philippe Perras). She and Daniel meet at a party, and they fall in love with each other in love and music. A real tragedy will ensue, and Lana’s future will be in danger. I’m crazy, because I play a singer and I am also one in life. This allows me to combine my two passions in a single project. There are no coincidences in life. What I also like about this role is that it allows me to explore my more dramatic side, because I have mainly been seen in comedies. Playing this character is a great gift from the universe, because without giving too much away, let’s say that there is no “normal” scene in this series.

I feel like you’re tiptoeing in as a singer. Why use another name and why just with a song?

Cath Darbouze is the name I used on social networks when I was a crown prosecutor. Darbouze is my mother’s last name. Eventually, I would like to be recognized under the name Catherine Souffront Darbouze, simply because the legacy on my mother’s side is immense. I was practically raised by my maternal grandmother. But for the moment, Darbouze is the singer’s name. I like this double identity and this trait between the actress and the singer.

And why do you feel like you’re arriving on tiptoe?

At the moment, I work a lot as an actress and I also write. This is what allows me to earn my living. But actually, I’m tiptoeing about it because a few years ago I tried to present music and it didn’t go well at all. I left this adventure saddened and disappointed. I also find that being a singer is a much more vulnerable role. You can’t hide, it’s only you who is put in the forefront. In The eye of the storminitially I had a small role. Then, in At home, my role was a little more substantial. I’m not looking for the forefront at all costs, there’s something scary for me in that. I also find it difficult to find the time to make music, because when I start something, I’m intense and I have to do it fully. But this time, I decided to take it one step at a time. It is therefore to be continued.

Tell me about your boyfriend. Very little is known about him.

Yes, I know, even in the photos on the web, it says: “Catherine Souffront and her companion.” (laughs) My boyfriend’s name is Evan, and we’ve been together for almost two years. This is the great love between us. He is not part of the artistic community; he works in sustainable development.

Season 3 of
comes out at the end of the month on Tou.tv Extra. What can you tell us?

I am so proud of this series and to be able to show the life of a Haitian family in a series. There is something unprecedented and historic with all of this, because when I was little, there were few or no examples of black people on television. When I saw the play Legacy at Duceppe’s a few years ago, I burst into tears. This play takes place in Chicago in the 1950s and tells the story of an African-American family. When I saw the entire cast of black actors on stage, I burst into tears during the applause. I then realized that a part of me was lying to myself and that I would have liked to see a black princess on screen when I was young; It would have made a difference to me. Our home creates this beautiful legacy. It touches me so much.

In closing, what are your plans for the new year?

I’m going to star in a new series called Annabelle and Maxime and for the first time in my career, I’m going to play a fine step.
