Country Butchers: New Venture Addresses rising Demand for Local Meat Processing
Filling a Critical Gap in Local Meat Processing
In the heart of Côtes-d’Armor, Brittany, a new business is stepping up to meet the growing demand for localized meat processing. “Country Butchers,” founded by Alexandre Moy and Marius Bourneuf, aims to provide essential cutting and beef services to both breeders and individual consumers. This venture comes at a time when consumers are increasingly seeking locally sourced and processed food, highlighting the importance of regional food systems.
Experienced Butchers Launch “Country butchers”
Alexandre Moy, bringing 26 years of butchery expertise, and Marius Bourneuf, with 8 years in the field, have joined forces to establish “Country butchers.” Following their departure from Quintin Viandes, they identified an opportunity to continue their passion for meat processing while addressing a specific need within their community. Their company, established in April 2025, operates between Plémy and Haut-Corlay.
Comprehensive Services: From Farm to Table
Country Butchers offers a comprehensive service, handling everything from livestock collection to the final cut. Knowing that we also do the cattle collection. We take it to the slaughterhouse and collect it to go cut the customer
, explains Alexandre. They specialize in processing cattle, pigs, and sheep, catering primarily to breeders (80% of their business) while also serving individual customers and local communities.
Meeting Consumer Demand for Wholesale Meat
Recognizing a growing consumer interest in cost-effective meat purchasing, Country Butchers plans to expand its services to individual buyers. We want to develop sales to individuals because there is a strong demand. Buying wholesale is much cheaper
, they stated. This initiative aligns with current trends showing increased consumer interest in buying meat in bulk to save money, especially amid rising food costs. According to a recent survey by the Food Industry Association (FMI), 45% of consumers are actively seeking ways to reduce their grocery bills, with bulk buying being a popular strategy.
Future Plans: investing in Infrastructure
Looking ahead, Country Butchers is committed to enhancing its operations with improved infrastructure. They plan to establish a dedicated laboratory in early 2026 to ensure optimal cold chain management, particularly crucial during the warmer months. This investment reflects their dedication to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality.
Local Focus, Wide Reach
The partners have divided their operational area to ensure efficient service delivery. Marius Bourneuf manages the Corlay side, while Alexandre Moy oversees the Plémy area.this localized approach allows them to build strong relationships with their clients and provide personalized service.
