BRATISLAVA – Slovak healthcare is not exactly in the best condition. The opposition talks about a disaster, but the fact is that such a situation has existed here for decades. Even if, on the other hand, new hospitals were built during this period, or some old ones underwent reconstruction, but from the point of view of the whole country, it is still not enough. At the beginning of this year, a ranking was published that evaluates the performance and operation of hospitals over several years. The order itself may surprise you.
The Slovak institute INEKO, which deals with statistical data, published a ranking of the best Slovak hospitals at the beginning of the new year 2026. In it, he considered the same sectors for each subject and entered them in a table. The result is not only the ranking of the best 30, but also the performance of each hospital in individual sectors.
Divided into two categories
In addition, it should be noted that the hospitals were compared for the period from 2021 to the end of 2024. They are divided into two categories, namely “big hospitals” a “small to medium-sized hospitals“.
In this survey, big means the so-called terminal hospitals with a state founder, which deal with more difficult cases and are among the largest in terms of the number of hospitalizations, the number of beds and revenues. This does not include specialized institutional facilities such as children’s hospitals, cardiology and oncology institutes.

Small to medium-sized hospitals are those that provide comprehensive health care, but are not terminal hospitals in the region. The founder is a private individual, natural person, city, state or church.

Although there is no representation from the capital Bratislava in the first top 5 among large hospitals, in the section “operating experience of doctors” has the best ratings. In the category of smaller hospitals, the second place is Nemocnica Bory, which is the leader in the category “patient satisfaction“. INEKO offers more detailed results on its website.
