Brain Tumor Shrinks with Proton Therapy – Sioux City, Mayo Clinic

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A Sioux City man battling a rare and aggressive brain tumor is showing encouraging progress after proton radiation treatments.

Mike Jones was diagnosed with a diffuse midline glioma, a mass in his brainstem. Proton radiation treatments at Mayo Clinic caused the tumor to shrink.

Jones’s latest MRI, done this month, revealed the tumor had shrunk even more, and collapsed in on itself.

Jones goes back to Mayo in December unless there are any new symptoms or his existing symptoms get worse.

Doctors say they can now focus on the drooping on the right side of his face. There’s a chance they can reanimate the facial nerves.

Jones’s family has a fundraiser planned for Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Re/Max Centre in downtown Sioux City starting at 1 p.m.
