Vienna (OTS) –

“We saw excellent performances at the grand finale of the AustrianSkills on Sunday in Salzburg. One sales talent was more convincing than the other. I would therefore like to warmly congratulate all participants and especially the new national champion,” says Rainer Trefelik, chairman of the federal trade division at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ). At the same time, he thanks the training companies and emphasizes: “The AustrianSkills have once again proven the top quality of training in the domestic trade.”

Gold in the trade category went to Anna Tritscher from Sport Tritscher in Schladming, silver went to Lisa Mauder from Tscherne GmbH in Leoben and bronze went to Sofie Hölzl from XXX Lutz in Amstetten. For the new national champion, the victory also means the ticket to take part in next year’s WorldSkills in Shanghai. The retail sales competition is taking part there for the first time – on the initiative of the WKÖ federal trade division. “This is a real milestone that we are very happy about. I wish the Austrian participant all the best,” said Trefelik.

Winners are the best advertisement for apprenticeships in retail

According to the federal division chairman, the three top talents are “the best advertisement for an apprenticeship in retail”. Because apprentices are always wanted. With more than 15,000 apprentices, Austrian retail is one of the largest training sectors in the country. Anyone who decides to do an apprenticeship in retail can choose from a wide range of retail sectors: “This ranges from the sporting goods trade to the fashion trade to the pharmaceutical trade. The local trade is colorful, so training at a retail company is very varied,” says Trefelik. The high level of customer contact also ensures this.

In addition, the career paths are very open. “All doors are open to good salespeople. The young people can often take on management responsibilities shortly after completing their apprenticeship, for example as department head or branch manager. I am therefore convinced that our AustrianSkills winners still have a great future ahead of them,” says Trefelik. (PWK489/DFS)
