Apple Mac Mini Production Moving to Houston – Details

Apple will move some production of its Mac Mini desktop computer from Asian factories to the United States, with a new production line starting later this year at a facility in Houston, the iPhone maker announced Tuesday.

The plan represents Apple’s latest investment in the United States, following a commitment announced last August to invest $600 billion in the country over the next four years.

In May, US President Donald Trump threatened Apple with a 25% tariff on products made abroad, a sharp reversal from a previous policy in which his administration had exempted smartphones, computers and other electronic devices from tariffs on Chinese imports.

Apple is also expanding its Houston facility to include a new training center dedicated to advanced manufacturing, and has said operations in Houston will create thousands of jobs.

The company has a checkered track record of delivering on investment promises.

In 2019, for example, CEO Tim Cook visited a factory in Texas with Trump that was promoted as a new manufacturing site. However, the facility had been producing Apple computers since 2013, and Apple has since moved that production to Thailand.

Apple continues to make most of its products, including iPhones and iPads, in Asia, mainly China, although it has moved some production to Vietnam, Thailand and India in recent years.
