The provisional toll from the avalanche in the Ridanna valley would be two dead and one seriously injured. Two ski mountaineers were recovered dead, while another was taken by the Austrian rescue helicopter Christophorus to the Innsbruck University Clinic. A total of six helicopters intervened on site (the three Pelikans, the Aiut Alpin and the Guardia di Finanza from Alto Adige and the Christophorus from Austria) and around eighty rescuers from the entire Upper Isarco valley.
Only a few days ago, on March 12, Alto Adige remembered the tenth anniversary of the maxi-avalanche of Monte Nevoso, above Riva di Tures. There were six victims of the most serious accident in the South Tyrolean mountains in recent decades. Among the victims there was a 16-year-old boy, swallowed by the avalanche before his father’s eyes, a young nurse, a very expert mountaineer, who had even climbed Manaslu, and the general director of the Chamber of Commerce of the Austrian land Tyrol.
