Air India Crash: Object Seen Falling Before Disaster

New video footage indicates a possible cause in the tragic Air India crash near Ahmedabad.


New video footage of the Air India plane crash on Thursday seems to show an unidentified object detaching from the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner just before the aircraft plummeted to the ground, killing 241 people.

Following the crash, India’s civil aviation regulator has instructed Air India to perform additional inspections on its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners that use General Electric’s GEnx engines. Thes inspections will include assessments of fuel parameters, the cabin air compressor, the engine control system, the hydraulic system, and take-off parameters.

Investigators continued their search of the crash site on Friday, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the sole surviving passenger, Vishwash, in the hospital. Vishwash, who was seated in 11A, reported that the plane’s lights “started flickering” shortly after takeoff, immediatly before the crash.

Nayan Kumar Ramesh, 27, another brother, shared the family’s devastation from their home in Leicester. “We were just shocked as soon as we heard it. I last spoke to him yesterday morning.We’re devastated, just devastated. He said I have no idea how I exited the plane.”

A relative named Jay mentioned that Vishwash spoke to his father after the crash, saying, “He’s got some injuries on his face. He was painted in blood. He was pretty much covered in blood, that’s what his dad said.” He added, “He’s doing well I think. It’s a big shock. I don’t have many words to describe the incident.”
