AI & Human Collaboration: Winning with AI Support

¿To what extent AI has done our lives a favor? Have we integrated it well into our daily lives? There is no better way to know if these advances are good for the development of our brain than to ask a brain training expert What use does she make personally and professionally? Artificial intelligence. And that is precisely what we have done.

Catalina Hoffmann is an expert in cognitive stimulation and brain training with more than 20 years of experience. She is the creator of the Neurofitness®️ Method, has written more than 10 books, including the Neurofitness Trilogy and is an international speaker, disseminator, and composer of binaural music.

We have contacted her to find out How Artificial Intelligence has emerged in the development of your activityhow much good we can get from it and where its consequences lie (or should lie). limitations for the brain to continue developing as can be expected from him.

You are a pioneer in brain training in Spain. How did AI come into your daily life and what surprised you the most?

I really try Do not use Artificial Intelligence too much in my daily professional life, because I have a job that involves a lot of direct contact with people and a lot of creativity and that cannot and should not be replaced for a technology. Now, using this tool does allows me to access data more quickly which, otherwise, would have taken me a long time to compile and that is very useful, because it allows me allocate more time to tasks in which I am irreplaceable.

AI allows me to spend more time on tasks in which I am irreplaceable.

For example, there are those who use AI to compose binaural music, but I do it by myself, without using this tool, because I already I have proven that the human factor makes a big difference on the effect this music has on the brain and emotions. Regarding what surprises me the most, I would say that it is undoubtedly the speed with which this technology has evolved. It seems to me a clear example of how Human beings are capable of amazing things when they set out to progress. and overcome barriers.

As a brain trainer, how do you use AI to stimulate the mind?

AI can help us if we use it as a tool to pose challenges to us. Although for meit is best to use it to save time on tasks that are not stimulating for our brain, allowing us to have more minutes in the day to do what does involve a challenge for our neurons. Otherwise, if we use it as a substitute for those memory, attention or decision-making functions, we will be contributing to our brain losing agility in these tasks.

Many people are afraid or distrustful of AI. Can AI help us care for mental and emotional health instead of distancing us from it?

It all depends on the use we make of it. If we use it as a substitute for human contact, it doesn’t help.but it can do so if we use it to put words to what we feel and experience. That is, if instead of keeping what you are experiencing to yourself, you express it in writing or out loud (because right at that moment you cannot talk about it with anyone), that It can help us gain perspective and make our “rational brain” more aware of what is happening. in our “emotional brain”.

This is something that was done long before with newspapers and it is something that I recommend doing, for example, using the emotions notebook to put in writing what we feel and think. Of course, just because we have let off steam with AI at first does not mean that we should put aside writing our feelings by hand or sharing them with someone. These actions (handwriting and human contact) have benefits that AI cannot give us.

What AI-supported habits or exercises would you recommend to keep the brain young?

It depends on the needs of each person. For example, we can ask him to tell us a random list of 5 words and ask us to repeat it a few hours later. We can also ask him to give us mental calculation challenges or to give us riddles. Of course, I always defend that The ideal is to train with human intelligence and allocate AI to tasks that are not stimulating for our brain, to free up time and dedicate that time to putting our brain to work… That is the biggest and best help.

Looking to the future, how do you think the combination of human brain and AI will change the way we live, work and age?

I think that combination is already changing everything, both for better and for worse. From a positive perspective, is helping us accelerate studies on the brain and health, by collecting data more quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, it is causing our way of thinking to change because We have had to adapt to using a new tool and that is always a challenge. Of course, the key is in that word: tool.

In short, for Catalina, “as long as let’s use AI as a support and not as a substitute of our brain functions, we will be winning.” Perhaps we have created a monster but precisely whether or not it acts in our favor will depend on how intelligent we are.
