It was held today in Florence first session of the new regional council of Tuscany: with 39 votes out of 40, and a blank ballot, Stefania Saccardiwho in the past legislature acted as vice-president of the Tuscany Region, was elected, on the first ballot, president of the Legislative Assembly. Antonio Mazzeo, with 23 votes, and Diego Petrucci, with 16 votes, were elected as vice-presidents.
As soon as she was elected, Saccardi wanted to express her thanks to the entire Council, to President Giani and to her predecessor Antonio Mazzeo. “It is a great honor to hold this responsibility – said Saccardi – and let a thought go to the other woman who held the role of president of the Tuscan Assembly: Loretta Montemaggi. In this Council I note the presence of 10 women compared to 14 in the previous legislature, a topic on which politics will have to question itself due to the role that women have in our society and also in politics”.
“I will try to carry out this role with responsibility, respect and impartiality – he added – because as our Statute says we represent the Tuscan community”.
The council announced by Giani
During the proceedings the governor Eugenio Giani illustrated the legislative program and announced the composition of the council team, while the proxies will be announced later. Giani indicated the names of the new eight regional councilors and the undersecretary of the Presidency of the Region, the new institutional figure of liaison between the Council and the Council, introduced with the latest statutory reform.
“The members of the council – Giani stated – represent different skills and sensitivities. The specific delegations will be assigned to the councilors in the next few days”.
