by Archynetys Sports Desk

Coach Jitka Klimková’s team will remain in the second performance group of the League of Nations. The Czechs took second place behind Ukraine in group B4 due to their worse balance in head-to-head matches. Austria finished third in the “A” and as the seeded team confirmed their role as favorites in the playoff.

The Austrians equalized the deficit from the opening duel in the 34th minute after a foul by Votíková on Campbell. The penalty was easily converted by captain Puntigamová. Another important moment came a quarter of an hour before the end, when Votíková fouled Hanshaw just before the goal and received a second yellow card. The Czechs finished the game weakened and substitute Lukášová had to go in goal.

In the end, the double match did not reach extra time, in the 89th minute Kleinová headed in after a corner kick. The Czech soccer players sent ten shooting attempts, but not once did they hit the space between the posts. They thus lost to Austria for the fourth time out of the last five mutual matches.
