Due to changes in WhatsApp‘s policies and terms, ChatGPT will soon say goodbye to the messenger, OpenAI said.
The chatbot moved into WhatsApp at the end of 2024, and you could talk to it just like a real person – it appeared in chats and you could come back to it at any time if you had a question.
However, this option will disappear after January 15, 2026, and it was not decided by OpenAI. In fact, the company explained in the related blog post: they wanted ChatGPT to remain available in WhatsApp, but according to the signs, this was not possible.
The bad news is that you can’t export your previous chats. The only option is to open the chatbot’s ‘profile’ and select ‘connect with ChatGPT’. This way, your conversation history will be synchronized with your data stored at OpenAI.
