When she was young, she was labeled as “too sweet” to be taken seriously.

Today, over 60 years after she got her first TV role, Sally Field (78) is one of Hollywood’s most respected actors-and a clear voice in the fight for women and the elderly in the film industry.

Sally is something as unique as a gentle and cautious soul that has been successful in an industry known to people with pointed elbows.

Everything started when she was able to visit her mother Margaret Field (1922–2011) on a film recording in Hollywood. The mother was an actor, but she never became world famous.

Thus, her daughter decided that she would become a real star.

There was also a hope of getting away from the bad family situation behind this dream.

Was abused by stepfather

Sally’s mom had divorced her father and remarried to the stunt man Jock Mahoney.

– He could be a real tyrant. The most harmful part of him was that he loved to humiliate others, Sally told.

In the autobiography “In Pieces,” which came a few years ago, she also says that the stepfather abused her from the time she was 14 years old.

When she was 16 years old, she was given the lead in the TV series “Gidget”, and since that time it has been the blow-up-to-stroke.

She won her first Oscar for “Norma Rae” (1979) and the second for “Places in the Heart” (1984). Movies like “Forest Gump” (1994) and TV series like “Brothers and Sisters” (2006–2011) made it look easy.

– In reality, I felt shy and gently and hidden. On stage, I never knew what I was going to say or do. I surprised myself, Sally now tells Time.

Still, Sally plays in movies and TV series. She thinks it is incredibly important to contribute to diversity, and has previously said that the focus on the actors being young is one of the biggest barriers to women in Hollywood.

– It’s so tough for women. Everything is about young men, and it is a self -fulfilling prophecy, she continues.

The mother’s relationship with the tyrannical stepfather has affected Sally’s love life. She was only 21 years old when she married her first great love, Steven Craig.

They got sons Peter (55) who is a writer, and Eli (53) who is an actor, before the relationship ended in 1975. Two years later she met Burt Reynolds (1936–2018). It was the start of a turbulent relationship that almost destroyed her – and which he never forgot.

– Burt was exuberant, while Sally was more introverted. She carried many emotional scars, and since she was a young single mother, she couldn’t be available around the clock as he wanted, says a source to The Examiner.

In 1982, the relationship was irrevocably ended. Burt had been unfaithful, and Sally went. In 1984, she married Alan Greisman (78), and they had her son Samuel (37). That relationship ended in 1993, and since that time, Sally has been single except for one short -term relationship.

– She has had a fantastic career, which is not over. She gets to be with her grandchildren, and she has more money than you can dream of. Finding a man and living happily with him for the rest of his life is not in the picture. Sally has long learned to live with it, says The Examine’s source.

But what she can’t live without is her friends.

Jane Fonda (87) is one of the closest. And their friendship started in an enjoyable way, well over 40 years ago. It started with Jane knocking on the door of Sally and said: Come on, we’ll have lunch.

After that, they have stayed together, to each other’s great joy.

– She has been incredibly important to me as a friend and mentor and everything else, Sally has told an online.

The politically engaged Jane is also good at taking over Sally to attend events and to participate in protests.

The duo has also worked together – not least in 2023, when they played good old friends in “80 for Brady”.

Sally plays older women with pleasure.

– I’m an old woman, and that’s fine. I have gathered strength during these years, she tells Time.

But she takes care to choose good roles, not roles that are silly or one -dimensional.

– There are many roles that do not show what it is really to be a woman in her 60s and 70s, she giggles.

Although she soon turns 80, Sally has no plans to set up. In 2023, she received Sag Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition for the effort as an actor – and her struggle for more justice in the actress industry.

And at home, the dog dashiell hammett is waiting. He came into her life by chance in 2019.

– It’s my first close relationship with an animal. I am obsessed. And then he is quite small, so I can travel with him, she tells Glamor.

Among other things, he was on the set of “80 for Brady”.

– He’s a really good guy. It has changed my life, Sally states.
