A group of students from Liceo N ° 2 “Antonio Grompone” of Salto – integrated by Catalina Morales, Facundo Lemos and Vladimir Maksimchuk, along with their guidance teachers Mariana Pizarro and Gabriela Silva – was selected to represent the department in the national instance of Uruguay 2025 Expocience. The event will take place in the city of Piriapolis on November 12, 13 and 14 Young will present their scientific dissemination project focused on regenerative medicine and nanotechnology, a proposal that allowed them to stand out and obtain recognition at the departmental level.
More effective treatments
In communication with change the students said that the work, entitled “Scientific Dissemination on Regenerative Medicine in conjunction with Nanotechnology“, was born with the aim of promoting the interest and understanding of these medical advances between students and teachers. Through interviews with specialists, an informative talk and comparative surveys before and after the activity, young people demonstrated that scientific dissemination can transform public perception of science and arouse future vocations. Regenerative medicine seeks to repair or replace damaged tissues and organs through the use of stem cells, while nanotechnology allows you to create smart nanoparticles capable of releasing medicines in a controlled way in specific areas of the body. This combination promises more effective and less invasive treatments for diseases such as osteoarthritis, tendonitis or medullary lesions.
Regional projection
During the process, the students interviewed Uruguayan professionals in sports, pain and biotechnology, as well as an expert in nanoparticles of the Faculty of Chemistry, who shared key information about the potential of these technologies. One of the testimonies stressed that in Uruguay regenerative medicine “represents the present and future of pain treatment”, while nanotechnology applied to health is still expanding, but with great regional projection. The surveys conducted to the Liceo public showed a remarkable increase in interest and understanding after the talk: before, most associated regenerative medicine with “strengthening the body”; Then, they understood their true purpose: repair tissues and restore natural functions. A greater acceptance was also observed towards possible treatments based on these innovations, students said. “This project allowed us to verify that science can reach everyone if it communicates clearly,” said the team members, who stressed that many colleagues expressed curiosity to continue learning. Thanks to this commitment to scientific education, the Liceo N ° 2 barrel group managed to qualify for the National Uruguay Exposcience Stage 2025.
