China Jeep Diesel: Land Rover Rival?

With robust diesel, plenty of equipment and a combat price, the China-Jeep BAW 212 wants to teach the established off-road brands to fear.

Qingdao/Munich – At the IAA Mobility 2025, an angular off -road vehicle caused a sensation: BAW 212. Together with its European partner Indimo Automotive GmbH, the Chinese manufacturer BAW (Beijing Automobile Works) presented the latest generation of a legendary off -roader.

Since the mid-1960s of the past century, the predecessor Beijing Bj 212 in China has stood for robust technology and reliability. The Asian Jeep counterpart soon starts as a revised version in Germany.

BAW 212: Traditional and modern at the same time

According to a corresponding message, the new BAW 212 remains true to its roots: simply constructed, extremely robust and almost indestructible. This combination has long made it a favorite of the military, authorities and off-road fans in the People’s Republic.

At the fair in Munich, the China-Jeep showed itself with a completely modernized technology: new drive and security systems in connection with contemporary comfort without losing the original character.

BAW 212: price-performance bang with diesel drive

On the outside, the off -road vehicle is reminiscent of classics such as the Land Rover Defender or Toyota Land Cruiser – describes the Automotive week. As for the price, however, the exotic is cheaper. With an entry price of less than 40,000 euros (including VAT!) The BAW 212 positions itself significantly below comparable off -road vehicle. The China-Jeep is almost fully equipped-including switchable all-wheel drive, off-road reduction, differential barriers and a trailer load of up to 2.5 tons. The 212 initially comes as a diesel with 8.5 liters of consumption per 100 kilometers, a petrol variant with 185 kW (251 hp) has also been announced. Other variants such as plug-in hybrid and as a pick-up are planned.

Importer Indimo brings the China Jeep from BAW to Europe

Indimo Automotive takes over the import and distribution of BAW 212 in Germany and large parts of Europe. “The interest is great,” reported Thomas Schelsky, board member of Indimo, the Automotive week. According to the report, the response on the IAA was overwhelming. “The BAW 212 is a piece of automotive history and it proves that classic off-road technology still has its place on the market today,” the manager enthuses.

When asked by IPPEN.MEDIA A spokesman explains: “The first delivery that will arrive in Germany at the beginning of December is fully sold out.” For 2026, Schelsky expects at least 1500 vehicles sold in Germany alone.
