Tokyo, October 2 (Jiji Press) – Thursday was learned that the administration led by the Democratic Liberal Party (PLD) is coordinating a call in the diet for an extraordinary session that would be held on October 15 in order to choose the next Prime Minister of Japan, once the party leadership elections have been held.

The vote to choose the successor of the outgoing prime minister, Ishiba Shigeru, could take place on the first day of the session, and the new head of government would form his cabinet that same day.

The winner of the internal elections of the PLD, which will be held on Saturday, will probably become Prime Minister, since it is unlikely that opposition parties will be able to join around a single candidate, despite the fact that the PLD-Kōmeitō coalition lacks a majority in both cameras of the diet.

The new prime minister will go to each of the chambers of the diet and answer the questions of the parties representatives. The opposition block requires that the budget committees of both cameras celebrate as soon as possible intensive debates with the new prime minister. The dates of these sessions will be set based on the diplomatic agenda of the new Prime Minister, which includes a visit to Malaysia to participate in the meetings related to the Association of Nations of Southeast Asia (ASEAN), scheduled as of October 26.

During the extraordinary session, the government is expected to present a supplementary budget project. It remains to be seen if the ruling block will manage to gather sufficient support from the opposition.
