Cowboys’ Bright Star Overshown’s Season Cut Short by Devastating Knee Injury
Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, a rising star in his sophomore season, suffered a devastating knee injury during Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury, confirmed to be a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL, will sideline Overshown for the remainder of the 2024 season and potentially into 2025.
A Promising Season Cut Short
Overshown had emerged as a key player for the Cowboys, showcasing his versatility and athleticism. He recorded 90 tackles, five sacks, an interception, a pick-six, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery prior to the injury. Coach Mike McCarthy recently praised Overshown’s progress, comparing his impact to Cowboys legend Darren Woodson.
"We’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg, really," McCarthy said. "I’m so impressed with him, and in his consistency, in his approach, and that’s just going to keep putting him in the position to progress."
A Difficult Road to Recovery
The severity of Overshown’s injury, which occurred late in the season, casts a shadow over his future. While he is expected to make a full recovery, the lengthy rehabilitation process could impact his availability for the start of the 2025 season.
"I think that’s fair. The time of year. Obviously, we’re in December. I think like anything, you have the surgery and the rehab is a long process. I think that’s very realistic," McCarthy said about the possibility of Overshown missing the 2025 season.
Support for Overshown
The Cowboys organization and his teammates have rallied around Overshown, offering their support during this challenging time. Micah Parsons, who considers Overshown like a brother, expressed his sadness and frustration at the news.
"He’s like my little bro," Parsons said. "He don’t deserve that, he really don’t. To understand what he’s going to have to go through. … He’s so talented, the year he was having. I really don’t think it’s fair."
Looking Ahead
While Overshown’s injury is undoubtedly a setback for the Cowboys, his talent and dedication to the game are undeniable. With a strong support system and unwavering determination, he will undoubtedly work tirelessly to overcome this challenge and return to the field stronger than ever.
