New Railway Station Renewal Program
Table of Contents
Polskie Koleje State SA has prepared a new investment program “Passengers friendly stations“, which will increase the quality of travelers service at an even larger number of railway stations. The plans include not only the modernization of existing stations and the construction of completely new facilities, but also the implementation of repairs needed and expected by passengers and other activities on a smaller scale. After analyzing over 400 locations, the program was selected 181 stations from all over Poland.
– The main goal of the Passengers’ Friendly Station program (DPP) is to improve the quality of service at railway stations for as many users as possible with the optimal use of available funds and conducting investment activities in such a way that travelers and other users can feel their effects as soon as possible. Similarly to previous programs, it is primarily about creating functional, available to all stations, using pro -ecological solutions and using their potential as interchange centers integrating various types of collective and individual transport. That is why the construction of parking lots, bicycle sheds or a new arrangement of rootworc squares and participation in similar projects implemented by other entities, e.g. local governments, is so important. PKP also strives to manage the buildings of stations as best as possible – the company actively cooperates with entrepreneurs who conduct commercial activities (trade, services, gastronomy) and local governments, thanks to which the stations also perform important social functions (cultural centers, the seat of public institutions and organizations) – inform Polish State Railways SA
Program divided into components
To better manage individual investment tasks, minimize disruptions in their implementation and plan them properly in time, the new program was divided into four components, to which activities planned at the stations were assigned:
- investment component – includes stations requiring comprehensive reconstruction and locations in which the construction of completely new facilities is planned;
- efficiency component – will allow you to maintain high quality of service at stations, which are used by the largest number of passengers;
- renovation component – includes work that will significantly affect the appearance of stations and the comfort of passengers, such as the renovation of the facade, refreshing the waiting room, assembly of electronic boards with information about the arrival and departure of train;
- tourist component – It includes modernization of stations that are of great importance in servicing tourist traffic, especially in the summer and winter seasons, which are also used by local residents.
Importantly, the ranking list and letters assigned to specific components can be updated and will be subject to regular verification, and the investments included in further places the letter can be implemented depending on the available means and changing conditions. In addition, PKP is already working on another undertaking, whose main assumption is even closer cooperation with local governments, and the result of modernizing subsequent station buildings in smaller towns.
