The Ministry of Health and Social Services announces that the testing test of human papilloma viruses is now accessible to the population of Estrie. The region is thus added to several territories where it has been set up. This test will gradually replace the PAP test in order to offer more precise and less frequent screening.
Unlike the PAP test which is carried out every two years, that for HPV is only necessary every five years for the vast majority of eligible people. The ministry recalls that an HPV infection is the main cause of cervical cancer.
The MSSS announced last fall that the VPH vaccine is offered free of charge to anyone 20 and under. A free period is currently available for people aged 21 to 45, until remaining doses are depleted. The appointment is offered on CLIC Santé.
