Partial solar Eclipse to Grace Southern Skies

Skywatchers in the southern hemisphere are gearing up for a partial solar eclipse on Sunday, September 21, 2025, an event playfully called the “Eclipse of the equinox.”

According to Dr. Ashraf Tadros, professor of astronomy at the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, solar eclipses occur when the moon is new, while lunar eclipses happen when the moon is full.

The upcoming partial solar eclipse will occur approximately two weeks after a total lunar eclipse, coinciding with the new moon phase.

Dr. Tadros notes that the eclipse will be exclusively visible in the southern regions of the world, especially in southern Australia, the Pacific Ocean, and Antarctica.

He also stated that observing solar and lunar eclipses helps to determine the start and finish of lunar months, offering a clear illustration of the moon’s orbit around the Earth and the Earth’s orbit around the sun.
