Spain Announces Arms Embargo on Israel in Response to Gaza Conflict

Spanish Prime Minister PEDRO SÁNCHEZ announced nine new measures on Monday, including a total arms embargo, aimed at pressuring Israeli Prime Minister BENJAMIN NETANYAHU’s goverment “to stop the genocide in GAZA.”

SÁNCHEZ, leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), acknowledged the ancient suffering of the Jewish people, including the 1492 ethnic cleansing of Jews from SPAIN.

“The Jewish people have suffered countless persecutions, deserve to have their own state, and to feel secure,” SÁNCHEZ said. “that is why the Spanish government has condemned HAMAS’ attacks from day one.”

“Ther is a difference between defending your country and bombing hospitals or starving innocent children,” the prime minister continued.”This is an unjustifiable attack on the civilian population, which the [United Nations] rapporteur has described as genocide.”

“Sixty thousand dead, two million displaced, half of them children,” SÁNCHEZ said. “This is not self-defence, it is not even an attack – it is the extermination of a defenseless people and a violation of every international law.”

Arms Embargo and Diplomatic Pressure

“This is not self-defense… it is the extermination of a defenseless people and a violation of every international law.”

The arms embargo is a key component of SPAIN’s strategy to pressure ISRAEL. Additional measures announced by SÁNCHEZ include increased humanitarian aid to GAZA and working with international partners to hold ISRAEL accountable for alleged war crimes.

The Spanish government has been a vocal critic of ISRAEL’s actions in GAZA, particularly the high number of civilian casualties. SPAIN has also called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to peace negotiations between ISRAEL and PALESTINE.

International reaction

The announcement of the arms embargo has drawn mixed reactions from the international community. Some countries have praised SPAIN for taking a strong stance against ISRAEL’s actions, while others have criticized the move as being one-sided and unhelpful to the peace process.

The ISRAELI government has condemned SPAIN’s decision, calling it a “antagonistic act” that will harm relations between the two countries.

The situation remains tense, with no immediate end to the conflict in sight. SPAIN’s actions are likely to further strain relations between ISRAEL and some European countries.
