The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) together with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bulog succeeded in reducing the price of rice significantly through large-scale market operations held in various regions of Indonesia.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Andi Amran Sulaiman stressed that the government was fully committed to maintaining food availability at affordable prices. One concrete step is the massive distribution of rice supply and food prices (SPHP) which is proven to be effective in reducing prices.

“This market operation is a concrete manifestation of the presence of the government to protect the people. We want to ensure that rice is available enough, stable prices, and the welfare of farmers are maintained. Therefore, we will continue to do the intervention consistently,” Amran said in his statement, Monday (8/9/2025).

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in the last week of August 2025 the increase in rice prices was still recorded in 214 districts/cities. However, in the first week of September the number dropped dramatically to 100 districts/cities. The area that experienced a decline in prices also increased from 58 to 105 districts/cities.

The Minister of Home Affairs (Minister of Home Affairs), Tito Karnavian in the inflation control coordination meeting this morning also appreciated the Ministry of Agriculture’s steps.

“This phenomenon rarely occurs in the last two years. Data shows government intervention, especially market operations held by the Ministry of Agriculture together with Bulog, succeeded in stabilizing the price of rice,” he said.

In addition to market operations, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bulog also held a cheap food movement (GPM) in 7,285 sub -districts on August 30, 2025. This activity coincided with the commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, aimed at maintaining people’s purchasing power and controlling inflation.

During a working visit in Palembang, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman together with Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian even went directly to the market to ensure the distribution of SPHP rice runs smoothly and can be accessed by the public at affordable prices.

Head of BPS, Amalia Adinegar Widyasanti said that the price of rice in zones 1 and zone 2 is now under control, with the highest retail price (HET) of medium rice Rp 13,500/kg and premium rice Rp 14,900/kg. Zone 3 is still a major concern for further intervention.

The Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed that it will continue to strengthen cooperation with the National Food Agency, Bulog, and the Regional Government in order to maintain the stability of rice prices in all regions.

“We will not stop before the price is really stable in all zones. This is our commitment for the people,” said Amran.
