Fasting & Weight Loss: Health Risks You Should Know

by Archynetys Health Desk

Now live a sweet and personal sweet moment, but for nutrition expert Pablo Ojeda Jiménez (Seville, 1982), @pabloojedaj on Instagram, life has had more thorns than roses. After overcoming ludopathy in your youth, weighing 138 kilos and several suicide attempts; He studied nutrition, specialized in obesity and TCA (eating disorders) and founded its psychonutrition center. He assures that the most difficult thing was not to leave the game and lies, but to change his life.

He has detailed his experience in his books ‘when I fed on the game’ (encourage) and ‘Food, we are going to get along’ (planet). And for two years it helps to put coherence and common sense to nutrition in ‘Better late’ of La Sexta, in the mornings of Kiss FM and in its social networks.

–In his book ‘When I fed on the game’ he told some episodes of his demolishing life, why was he exposed so much?

Every time I talk about my story I don’t look for admiration or anything similar, just show that, like many other people, I lived a difficult process, fell and could redirect it with help.

“Did you miss many people in their stage as a ludopath?”

I came from a well -off family. I was not missing anything, but at twenty -country years I fell into the world of game and addictions and that consumed me because I had other things associated such as lies and destruction as a person. But whom I did the most was myself for the lack of control that I had in other areas such as food and alcohol.

“What was your relationship with food at that time?”

I got to weigh 138 kilos. I ate without control and compulsively to cover my problems. When he ate he did not remember either debts, neither the Broncas nor the lies. I got into hard situations to get money and had several suicide attempts. The feeling of believing that death is your only exit is the hardest thing I have lived.

“But it touched background …

Yes, there was a time when I sold my father’s car to get money. And I think there I touched back. I asked for help and the truth is that my family never threw anything in face. In fact, I believe that his support and also that of my ex -wife, who is a psychologist, was one of the reasons why I got rehabilitated.

“What memories do you come from that moment?”

Something that I learned during the rehabilitation process is that the easiest was actually leaving the game. What was really difficult was to change life. To recover I had to change everything: friendships, customs, dynamics, attitude, way of seeing life … and all this that I tell is something that is closely related to diets, because if one loses 30 kilos in a year but then does not change anything that led him to eat at all hours or compulsively, it is most likely to recover those kilos and more. But that is so difficult to lose weight.

“Was it there when nutrition came into your life?”

In that change of life we also had to enrich that time dedicated to the game. What I did was study nutrition while I was rehabilitating. And there I could understand some common denominators among addictions because my colleagues also ate when they stopped playing, or made compulsive purchases or got out of control. I understood that nutrition was not only food, but how one wants to live.

“And after studying and studying, she decided to help other people …

I began to disseminate around nutrition because I had a certain ability to communicate. At first I was still too radical and I think I was wrong, but ten years later I can say that I am in a good time, both personal and professional and that I try to help from tranquility and common sense.

—What is the greatest mistake that is usually made when trying to lose weight?

—Make aggressive changes without having followed a process to establish habits. Trying to lose seven kilos in September is like climbing to the highest peak the day you are learning to ski. The magical buttons do not exist, what works is to be constant.

“What diets are dangerous?”

—The people use the celebrities. And also misunderstood fasting. Those who turn to him and stop eating on their own to lose weight run the risk of suffering a nutritional deficit.

“Then you have no benefits?”

“Yes, it is clinically wonderful.” Improves the lipid profile, and helps regulate blood glucose, cell self -phase and chronic inflammation … but it is not for everyone, and less if you do not have a good relationship with food. It is not to stop eating and removing nutrients but in reducing calories and maintaining nutrients.

—What does it imply eating in a nutritional and healthy way?

—A interesting option is to think about the rainbow, with its seven colors represented in the form of fruits and vegetables, because that allows vitamins and minerals to be regularly consumed. To that we must add the proteins, which feed the muscle, which is the engine of the body.

“What happens if enough proteins are not consumed?”

—That the body will pull the muscle to obtain energy and that will make the body able to burn less and less calories. Chronic number one disease in Spain from 45 years is sarcopenia or loss of muscle mass. But to combat it you have to exercise, it is not only worth the food.

“Is it essential to exercise weight?”

“And move!” Sedentary life kills more people than tobacco. You will not be healthier because you go to the gym an hour a day. What are you doing the remaining 23 hours? It is good to build muscle mass to increase basal metabolism, but you have to increase neat (‘non-anxercise activity thermogenesis’ or thermogenesis produced by activity outside exercise), which covers everything that one moves daily.

“Then with moving more on a day to day, it is worth …

“No, you have to do both of you, spend much less sitting and work cardiovascular strength and resistance.” Some people tell me that in their work they do not stop and that that is already exercise. It is not. Exercise is to build muscle.

“Nutrition resembles politics: it interests the most extreme, not the middle term”

“Do you go to the gym?”

“Yes, 25 minutes a day.” The important thing is to be constant. And for this you have to make it easy. Something that often happens is that people do nothing because they can’t get time. But more 15 or 20 minutes a day are worth a couple of batters a week. In addition, in my case doing exercise allows me to be an enjoyment.

“With food?”

-Yet. Taking care is not to punish or get pressure because that can lead to guilt, which always makes bad decisions. You have to be demanding with oneself, but also compassionate. The key is balance.

“Are there anything we will never find in your fridge?”

“Pizzzas and hamburgers, but simply because I don’t like them.” However, I love chocolate, sweets and chucheías.

“So she takes goodies …

“Yes, I buy a euro of chucheías when I travel by train.” With that it gives me for four or five things and I am so happy. It is liberating to know that I can do it because the rest of my life is ordered and healthy. The concept of forbidden is what does more harm.

“What is there always in your refrigerator?”

“I am vegetables.” I don’t know how to eat without them and I all like them. Also at most fish and, although I have reduced the consumption of meat, especially red meat, so demonized. The reserve for special occasions.

In social networks there are contradictory tips on gluten, dairy, eggs, sweeteners … How do you fight against food myths?

—The nutrition is increasingly similar to politics: the most striking is the extreme, not the midpoint. It does not cover the message of healthy and common sense, but knowing if something is good or bad. But in nutrition there is no black or white, but gray. No food is magical even if it has properties, nor does it fatter on its own. Radical messages are sought to avoid being constant, renounce and strive.

“What is the most limiting to lose weight?”

“No food or stress.” It is the lack of sleep. Before focusing on food you have to order life and schedules. And here I am going to throw stones on my roof: 80% of those who want to lose weight do not need a nutritionist, but a psychologist. But here also matches that the nutritionist is the one who knows how to assess whether he is a psychologist where that person must be referred.

“Can artificial intelligence put a diet?”

—There are many people who use it, but with it they are checked to the lonely. Do they tell her that they have problems with her husband, who are afraid of being fired or that they do not arrive at the end of the month? A context lacks a machine, so beware of that because it may harm them instead of helping them.

“In what cases is it appropriate to take supplements?”

—The interesting omega 3, magnesium and creatine are interesting when they are turning years and when life is demanding, but they have to use with head.

“Does it not eat healthy or exercise?”

-No. You have to have good habits. I am not a nutritional reference or by Asomo, but I am constant and big head. Having a commitment to oneself is the only way to advance. Constance is the most valuable tool.
