East Hartford Fire: 3 Displaced During CT Storm Cleanup

by Archynetys News Desk

Tree limbs fell in Newington, bricks dislodged from a chimney in Cheshire, and a house fire occurred in East Hartford during Saturday’s storm.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — A lot of prep work was made in Connecticut to prepare the state for the severe weather that stormed in on Saturday.

As several crews were stationed, many utility customers received text messages from groups like Eversource that said they were ready for the rain and wind.

And for first responders like those in East Hartford, it was a very busy day.

Flooding covered parts of the road, while fierce elements caused tree limbs to fall down in Newington, and bricks dislodged from a chimney in Cheshire. At one point, the Eversource outage maps showed close to 7,000 customers were impacted, with at least 1,000 from Meriden alone.

Crews were quickly deployed to tackle the outages, or any disaster that popped up. In East Hartford, that was downed wires, medical calls and a house fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Erick Munsell said the department was first notified about the flames just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Crews responded within three minutes and quickly got the flames under control.

While no injuries were reported, the three people inside are now forced to find another place to stay.

“They’re not able to stay at the home tonight, probably for a bit. There was some damage inside, but the bulk of the damage was to the garage space,” said Munsell.

The assistant fire chief said the cause of this fire is still under investigation.
